When it comes to trends, I’ve seen a lot come and go over my lifetime. Usually when I embrace a trend, I go all in…like mini skirts, colored or patterned tights, shoulder pads, platform shoes (both times around), shoulder baring torn sweatshirts and skinny jeans. When I don’t embrace a trend, I never change my opinion….belly baring tops with low rise jeans, blue eyeshadow, men’s shirts and blazers, and lastly, barrel or horseshoe shaped jeans. I swore off the latter declaring them utterly ridiculous. I now currently own 6 pair of these jeans and this is why. There is something about the concave shape that actually flatters the thigh, slimming it and making the leg appear longer. It’s like an optical illusion, but one I am totally going with because it works so well for me. If you have not tried this trend, but are open to it, perhaps start with one that is not too exaggerated like these dark denim jeans by Frame.
Since I am only 5’3, I like to wear my tops cropped at the waist or at least tucked in. This blouse by Maje, which is currently on sale, does double duty. Its elastic waist makes it appear as though it is tucked in, while at the same time drawing in at the top of the pant, which gives instant shape and is ultra flattering for any body type. The gorgeous blue coupled with the rhinestone buttons makes this blouse a winner.
I love pairing brown and navy. I think it’s warm and chic.
A little skin at the midriff and not below, feels okay with this outfit. However, I’m not sure I will feel this way in 5 years, so I am going with it now. And when my arms are at rest, there is no skin baring at all!
