During this unsettling time of quarantine, many of us are wearing sweats and leggings all day. I, however, choose to get dressed in jeans almost every day. Why do you ask? The answer is simple: I do not wish to fall victim to the “quarantine 15!” That reference is to the “Freshman 15” when a College freshman is consuming so much junk food and sitting around studying, that 15 pounds gather in no time. Surely you have seen all the Instagram and Facebook posts of people padlocking the fridge, asking if trips to kitchen count as exercise, guzzling glass after glass of wine, and claiming that their elastic waist pants are keeping them calm, cozy, and comfortable. The reality is that the elastic waist pants allow for your stomach to expand too comfortably, and you are no longer able to gage when you are satiated and should walk away from the table, fridge, or pantry.
I know myself… if I don’t wear pants with a zipper and button closure, I will eat past my limit, for no other reason than out of boredom and stress. I decided to err on the side of caution, and keep my eyes on the prize. I have far too many beautiful clothes in my closet to let them slip away to where I have lost access to them because I packed on the pounds. Hell no… or should I say “Hellesy” no, since the jeans I am choosing to wear are by my favorite fashion designer Sylvie Millstein, who is the creative force behind Hellesy. If you recall, I introduced you to this designer back in the fall when I featured this blazer. These jeans are so comfortable and so chic that all you need is a plain black top and super high heels to complete the look. I’ll admit that these heels are quite high, but I am quite short, so the added height that they afford me, elongates my leg and allows for the ribbons to just skim the floor. All that’s left is a sweep of red lipstick and you are good to go… even though you’re probably going nowhere… for the time being.
